The atmosphere was buzzing when 26 Ayr Rotarians arrived at LA Bowl in Miller Road, Ayr to enjoy a fun night, but with a seriously competitive edge. The thundering roll of bowling balls followed by the explosion of the hard plastic coated maple wood pins at the far end of the alley was heard all over the venue.

What do we get up to?

Our recent projects

Here are a few projects. See full list here

Poppy Appeal

For the last 15 years, Ayr Rotary has organised the Poppy Appeal in Ayr, raising over £150000 in that time.

Poppyscotland is the leading charity for the Armed Forces community in Scotland, providing vital support to veterans, serving personnel, and their families.

Tree of Remembrance

Each year in the 2 week run up to Christmas, the club organises and erects a Christmas tree to be decked with yellow ribbons on Ayr High Street to raise funds for three local canver charities. The concept is that passers-by can post a  ribbon with their own message to remember a loved one and make a donation.

Schools TechTournament

Rotary Technology Tournaments are a challenging and enjoyable way for young people to enrich their STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Rotarians are on hand to help when required, and judge the winning entries

Cycling Sportive

Ayr Rotary are delighted to partner with the Malawi Fruits charity which is a Scottish Charity established in 2011 to work with their partners in Malawi to establish and grow sustainable community businesses. Cyclists from all over Scotland compete in a 100 miles route, their entry fees raising money.

Charity Golf Day

We hold an annual Charity Golf Day in May, at Belleisle, Ayr. This is our major fund-raiser in the year and we have raised over  £160000 in the last 25 years. Local businesses are very supportive, and we have become known for offering great prizes for the golf and prize draw.

Aquabox

Aquabox provides drinking water to disaster-hit areas, around the world. Water is frequently contaminated and unfit to drink in a disaster area. A lack of sanitation creates an ideal breeding-ground for water-borne disease. Ayr Rotary engage with local schools to help them understand, and encourage them to collect money, and sponsor an Aquabox filter
